FLINTLOCK RIFLE PATTERNED AFTER A THIRD MODEL BROWN BESS. NSN. 72 Cal. 38-7/8” rnd bbl. Marked “I. ADAMS” on the lockplate in front of the hammer, “RW” on the left flat of the stock, and “CF” and “lion / P. D. / L.” on the right side of the buttstock. The latter marks probably indicate for whom these muskets were made, but it is unknown at this point. The musket is lighter than the standard 3rd Mod. Brown Bess and this is probably a Colonial contract. Several numbers are stamped on top of the bbl at the breech, along with Birmingham proof marks. CONDITION: Very good. Smooth brown patina with light pitting overall. Stock is missing chips at the front of the lockplate and is cracked from the rear lockplate screw to the bbl channel. Mechanically good. 4-59067 FS627 (2,750-3,250)
