BRASS TACKED TRYON MODEL 1842 MISSISSIPPI RIFLE. Cal. 60. 33″ rnd bbl. marked “TRYON / US” on the lockplate in front of the hammer, “PHILADA / PA / 1843″ vertically at the rear. The date on the bbl is unreadable due to very pitting in that area. The muzzle is turned for a bayonet and the top of buttplate has the issue #73. CONDITION: Rust/brown patina with very heavy pitting on the lockplate and rear of the bbl. Wood is heavily abraded in the lock area but the cartouche outlines are still visible. Lock is functional. Front bbl band is missing and a wrap of rawhide has been tacked on in its place. Ramrod is a replacement. There is another raw hide band at the wrist and there are many brass tacks added on both sides of the stock. Patchbox is full of grease. 4-58016 FS71 (1500-3000)
