B. VALENTINE (American, Third Quarter of the 19th Century) PANORAMIC VIEW OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK. Outstanding large oil on canvas scene shows the city of Syracuse at the end of Onondaga Lake looking from the west to the east. A squall line is seen approaching from the north with gray clouds and showers. In foreground are figures picnicking on hillside and a girl with blue dress and white handkerchief runs toward picnickers. The hillside and valley are lined with green fields and farms with a herd of cows in a split rail fenced area. Signed lower right “B. Valentine 1870″. We have been unable to find an artist listing. An outstanding work, nicely rendered with good detail. Housed in a fine period deep gilt gesso decorated frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 20″ x 40”.
