ANTIQUE OCCUPATINAL SHAVING MUG WITH UNIFORMED CAVALRYMEN. In the late 19th and early 20th century, if one frequented a local barbershop you would often have your own shaving mug. Most people, particularly if they had an occupation, had their shaving mug decorated with a subject matter representing their job, their interest or their history. This scarce example depicts a mounted cavalrymen on galloping horses with saber drawn in mountainous landscape carries the name of the former owner above the seam, “TIM REUS”. The mug with gilt detailed highlighting and signed on the bottom marked “A. R. & COMPANY, ST. LOUIS”. SIZE: 4-1/4”.
