RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1886 LEVER ACTION MUSKET. Cal. 45-70. SN 81894. Very scarce musket with 30” rnd bbl, square base front sight/bayonet lug with ski jump ladder musket rear sight. It has full length forearm with one band and nose cap. The bbl band has a sling swivel with a corresponding musket swivel in the buttstock. It has a musket buttplate with trap that contains an all iron 5-pc original wiping rod. Accompanied by an original Winchester socket bayonet without scabbard. Also accompanying is a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this musket as having been shipped on September 15, 1893. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 95-96% strong bright original blue with light wear at the muzzle end from the bayonet. Receiver retains most of its original case colors, brilliant on the sides and top, faded on the bottom and on the lever. Hammer retains most of its dark case colors and the buttplate about 60% faded case colors. Wood is sound with light handling and use marks and a sharp bruise near the tip of the forearm, otherwise retains most of its original dark oil finish. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. Bayonet has light surface rust over original bright polish. 4-52478 JR262 (10,000-20,000)
