LLOYD MIFFLIN (American, 1846-1921) “SUSQUEHANNA NEAR COLUMBIA”. Fine oil on canvas scene shows two rowboats side by side having two men and two women with pink parasols. They are out on an evening row and the moon shines through cloud brightly casting rays of light onto the river lined with trees and having a shallow water foreground. Signed lower left and dated “85”. Housed in a fine modern gilt frame with gilt liner. Title and artist written on back of canvas. Also writing on stretcher with location, date and artist name which is illegible. Mifflin was born near the Susquehanna making this the main subject of his paintings. He studied with Thomas Moran and was a student of Herman Herzog. SIZE: 11” x 9”. CONDITION: Very good, one small spot in sky restored. 9-74497 MD (2,000-3,000)
