RARE HESSIAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR MUSKET WITH BAYONET. NSN. Cal. 78. 43” rnd bbl. Maple stock. Marked “I D / LUXEM / BURG” in a cartouche on the lockplate in front of the hammer, “OD” in a sunken cartouche at the rear of the bbl and “GENERALITE”(?) on top of the bbl. Top tang of the buttplate is marked “7 1/2Br / It BAT”. The thumb plate is marked “HNO 27”. There are 4 brass bbl bands. Only the first has a catch spring. It also has a front sight. The bayonet has an “S”-slot with a locking spring on the bottom of the bbl. The 14” triangular blade is unmarked. The socket has engraved rings at front and rear. Ramrod has a forged nail end at the butt. Orig flintlock. The counter plate is German silver and the front of the comb has been scooped out. CONDITION: Mostly brown patina with areas of light surface rust and pitting. Brass mounts have a dark patina with some corrosion on the trigger guard and buttplate. There are minor chips missing below the front of the lockplate and some short cracks at the butt. Bayonet has matching patina. Mechanically fine. 4-58269 FS3 (6,000-9,000)
