FRAMED PHOTO OF SOUTH DAKOTA POLICEMAN FROM 1880’S. Early sepia toned photo. Exposed image 15-1/4″ x 12-1/4″, dbl matted & framed in barn board. At bottom of picture is a very early, rnd, nickeled badge with acanthus leaf wreath around outside with a cut out 5-point star in center & marked around inside ring “CHIEF POLICE / TYNDALL”. Accompanied by a leather covered weighted police billy with metal swivel in butt. Swivel is very worn in one spot. Backing board is printed with genealogy of David Roose who is apparently subject of photograph. There is a hand-written note on bottom which states that David Roose was writer’s Great Grandfather who was Chief of Police at Tyndall, SD in the 1880’s when he was killed by a drunk shooting him in back. Nnote is signed, “BEN P. R. ROOSE” & dated “12/01/92”. CONDITION: Photograph is fine with good image & fine toning. Badge shows considerable wear on wreath with one point of star broken loose from frame. Billy club is fine with light wear. 4-57648 JR530 (500-1,000)
