AFTER ALBERT BIERSTADT (American, 1830-1902) SUNSET. Oil on canvas landscape after a painting titled “Sunset” by Albert Bierstadt. The original painting used by the L. Prang Company of Boston for one of their popular chromolithographs. The original painting sold at Sotheby’s December 1st, 2004. Scene shows a bright yellow and gold sunset over water surrounded by cliffs and tree lined banks. Two birds are seen in the foreground next to rocky beach area. Housed in an antique gesso decorated frame having a McCaughen & Burr label. SIZE: 18” x 28”. CONDITION: Old relining, heavy varnish layer.
