AMES MODEL 1850 STAFF AND FIELD OFFICERS SWORD. 32-1/4” dbl fuller blade etched on both sides with “AMES MFG Co / CHICOPEE / MASS” on the right side. The upper ring support on the scabbard has the same marking stamped. CONDITION: Blade has been cleaned with slight loss to the etching, there are some sizable nicks to the edge of the blade and some light pitting towards the tip. The hilt retains about 1/2 of the gold wash. There is a large crack opening up in the shark skin covering of the grip. The twisted wire is still tight. Scabbard has some minor dents and flakes on the plated surfaces, the drag is bent and battered. 4-48561 X29 (Lowry Estate) (1,000-1,500)
