EXTRAORDINARY FRENCH CAMEO PRESENTATION WATER PITCHER. This unusual and unique piece of French Cameo glass obviously was a commissioned presentation pitcher specifically made for the owner of the ship “Cecelle” done sometime in 1900 or 1901. The “Cecelle” was built in 1899 in Rouen, France. It was first named “The Excelsior” then in 1901 sold and re-named the “Cecelle” and it was at this time that the pitcher was obviously made to commemorate the ship. The small amount of paper documentation regarding the “Cecelle” accompanies this lot. The vase carries a coat of ruby coloration with frosted background, the constricted neck with exaggerated pebble or “ice-like” effect design the bulbous base with a large detailed image of the steam-sailed yacht “Cecelle” on a turbulent sea. In the background are various other sailing vessels, sea gulls, a diving whale, and a rising sun. The detailed workmanship is fantastic. This is the only special order commissioned French Cameo glass piece we have ever handled or seen. It has a molded applied crystal handle. SIZE: 12-1/4″ h. CONDITION: Generally good, slight imperfections most of which are on the sharp, very, very thin weaving highlighted lines which represent the rope on the ship. A rare one-of-a-kind piece. 5-68008 (3,000-5,000)
