RARE BARTLEYS PATENT SINGLE SHOT RIFLE. CAL. 42. 32-1/4” octagonal bbl, marked “THEO. D. BARTLEY’S / PATENT OCT. 5, 1880” on top of the bbl and on the left side of the frame. Theodore Bartley worked in Dresden, New York, in the 1870’s and 1880’s. This unusual falling block action is operated by the hammer. When the hammer is cocked the breechblock falls and when the trigger is pulled the breechblock rises and hammer falls at the same time. A Lyman tang sight has been installed. CONDITION: Fine. 90% brown on the bbl and 80% blue on the frame. Triggerguard only has traces of blue remaining. Stock is fine with little in the way of marks on the butt and a small chip missing at the action on the forearm. Action is fine. 4-52664 FS156 (3,000-4,000)
