*EXTREMELY RARE PIGEON GRADE LC SMITH SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 4287R. Cal. 20 ga. 28″ bbls with matted concave tapered rib, ivory center, with ivory and brass front sighting bead. 2-3/4″ chambers IMP.CYL/FULL choke, ejectors, and Hunter One trigger. Top rib is engraved, “Hunter Arms Co. Makers Fulton, N.Y.” precious metal strip and engraved pigeon just forward of rib extension. Receiver is engraved with moderate foliate arabesque scroll. A pigeon in flight on left plate, as well as on right. Mounted in fancy well figured walnut with checkered splinter forend and black tip insert, checkered pistol grip with horn grip cap, 14″ to 1/2″ thick horn serrated butt plate. Accompanied with Cody Firearms Museum fact sheet identifying gun as regular frame with a ship date of September 9th, 1914. Bore diameter: left -.615, right -.614. Bore restrictions: left -.021, right -.007. Wall thickness: left -.031, right -.032. Drop at heel: 3-1/8″. Drop at comb: 7-1/8″. Weight: 6 lbs. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 90-95% blue with slight muzzle wear and a few of the usual handling marks. Receiver has 35-40% fading case colors, stronger in protected areas, with balance of fading colors to a silver hardening finish. Stocks are sound with minor hairline crack off of right plate, and a few minor handling marks and one scratch in center of left side. Finish is a lovely hand worn patina with fine slightly flat checkering. Pigeon grades are extremely rare and 20’s are even more so. 4-33267 BDT121 (15,000-25,000)
