*SCARCE LC SMITH MONOGRAM GRADE SIDE BY SIDE SHOTGUN. SN 122940. Cal. 20 ga. 32″ Sir Joseph Whitworth fluid steel bbl with vent rib and dual ivory sighting beads. 2-3/4″ chambers. FULL/FULL ejectors and hunter one trigger. Top of right bbl engraved “Joseph Whitworth fluid compressed steel.” Left “Made to order by the Hunter Arms Co. INC. Fulton N.Y.” Chamber area and rib extension engraved “L.C. Smith Monogram Grade.” The monogram grade is third highest grade and is the only grade to be carried from 1890 until 1945. This fine 20 is engraved with very fine tight scroll and flowers with an oval of four upland game birds on left side plate. Four ducks in flight over marsh on trigger plate and two partridge in oval on right side plate. The trigger guard was apparently originally personalized with initials on trigger bow which has now been removed and left blank. Mounted with fancy walnut with fully checkered beaver tail style forearm, Fleur De Lis checkered pistol grip with hard rubber grip cap 13-1/8″ over Hawkins recoil pad. Bore diameter: left -.613, right -.613. Bore restrictions: left -.025, right -.025. Wall thickness: left -.034, right -.029. Drop at heel: 2-1/4″. Drop at comb: 1-5/8″. Weight: 6 lbs 13 oz. Accompanied with Cody Firearm Museum fact sheet fully identifying this gun with a ship date of July 31, 1929 on order #28797 to Harper & Reynolds Corp. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 90-95% orig blue with normal sharp edge wear, a few nicks and scratches, and a couple of very minor cleaned rust spots. Receiver has 50-60% case coloring with balance being a silvery hardened and patina blend. There is carry wear across the bottom with some darkening on exposed bbl lug. Trigger guard shows wear in the grip area and has added blue color where earlier initials had been removed. Forend is solid with somewhat flat checkering and a hand worn patina finish. Stock is sound with just the faintest of hairline cracks behind each plate and usual light handling marks, nicks and dings. Checkering is good but shows wear, and finish shows to be a hand worn patina. The single trigger works fine in the right to left position but seems to be stuck from dried oil and won’t change at this time from left to right. Ejectors function fine, and bores are bright. 4-33663 BDT80 (40,000-60,000)
