L. V. ORSINGER’S ICE CREAM LIGHT SHADE. Unusual turn-of-the-century advertising light shade features two milk glass panels which read “Eat L.V. Orsinger’s Ice Cream”, set into a tin trapezoidal shaped framework. Sides are embellished with decorative faceted colored glass jewels. The shade was likely intended to have been hung above a soda fountain back bar, but is missing the original hanger, socket and cord. German immigrant George Orsinger established his LaSalle, Illinois bakery in 1857 which grew into Orsinger’s Bakery and Ice Cream Factory by 1904. His son, Louis Vincent Orsinger, operated the store and ice cream parlor at First and Joliet Streets in LaSalle and introduced the advertisement of his ice cream using lamp shades.
