SHARPS MODEL 1874 #2 MID-RANGE TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 44 2-1/4. SN 155295. Scarce special order rifle with 30″ mid-weight oct to rnd bbl with globe front sight, Sharps ladder bbl sight & a Sharps mid-range tang sight that bears serial number 156237. Mounted with very nicely figured American walnut with pewter tipped forearm & straight stock with nickeled brass crescent buttplate. Accompanied by a Sharps letter identifying this rifle as having been shipped March 18, 1876 to Sharps dealer J.P. Lovell & Sons of Boston, Mass. CONDITION: Fine plus. All matching except tang sight as noted. Bbl retains about 75% dull orig blue with some light scratches about mid-point. Receiver, lever, lockplate & hammer retain case colors in very sheltered areas, mostly turned silver & gray. Buttplate retains about 75% orig nickel. Forearm has a grain check on bottom; otherwise wood is sound with light nicks, dings & scratches & a couple of scrapes on left side of butt. Forearm retains traces of orig finish with balance a fine hand rubbed patina. Stock retains about 90% strong orig varnish. Mechanics are fine, very bright shiny bore. 4-56562 JR114 (10,000-16,000)
