AMES MILITIA SWORD. 31-1/2” straight, single fuller blade etched with American eagle on the right side and a stand of flags with liberty cap on the left. Mameluke style hilt has a plumed helmet pommel and carved bone grip. Crossguard has a five-pointed star in the center and acanthus leaf finials on the crossguard. Left side of the blade is faintly engraved “Ames Mfg. Co. / Chicopee / Mass”. This same marking appears on the reverse on the gold washed scabbard. CONDITION: Bright blade with widely scattered rust stains and specks of pitting. Crossguard and pommel retain most of the gold wash. Bone grip is split on both sides. Scabbard retains about 75% of the gold wash and has a few small dents. 4-48571 FS137 (Lowry Estate) (1,250-1,750)
