UNSIGNED (American, 19th Century) “JACOBS DREAM”. Allegorical oil on canvas scene shows a man sleeping beside pool of water in a dream state with eight angels descending on a misty ray of light from the sky. The background is a moonlit tropical landscape with waterfalls, palm trees and cliffs. Housed in a fine gesso decorated wood frame. The canvas stamp “Prepared by Edwd. Dechaux, New York”. The stretcher with old pen inscription “Anne Hall Flushing, LI”. SIZE: 31-1/2” x 36”. CONDITION: Inpainting to craquelure, very good. 9-26469 (1,200-1,600)
