US MODEL 1832 GENERAL OFFICERS SWORD. 31” single fuller blade etched on both sides. Right side has an American eagle above a military panoply display and an urn of flowers. The left side has the same eagle above a Massachusetts Indian and a ribbon engraved “NP Ames / Cutler / Springfield”. The heart shaped guard is mounted in front of the cross guard on the hilt. The grip is silver wire. Scabbard is most unusual with high relief mounts of elaborate cast bronze panels and flowers applied to the surface. It is marked on the reverse “AMES MFG. CO / CHICOPEE / MASS.” CONDITION: Blade is gray with spots of pitting at the tip and light spots scattered elsewhere.
