RARE WHITTIER REVOLVING RIFLE. Cal. 44 rifled.. NSN. 29-1/2” heavy oct. bbl. The bbl is fitted with a blade front sight and open buckhorn rear. The bbl is engraved around the front sight, at the breech and around the rear sight. The bbl is marked “Patent”. The 9-shot cylinder is easily identifiable by the deep zig-zag cuts around its surface. The top of the frame probably was fitted, at one time, with a long tang peep sight now missing.The gun is equipped with two triggers, the rear trigger revolves the cylinder, the front trigger fires the hammer. The trigger guard and patchbox are German silver, floral engraved. The buttplate is on iron and also scroll engraved. The 1-pc rear stock is of walnut retaining most of a coat of old varnish and is in fine condition. All of the steel parts of the gun retain about 50% of their orig blue finish showing some light surface pitting. Very few of these were made. 4-59105 (6,000-8,000)
