WILLIAM L. SCOTT 30TH & 38TH NEW JERSEY REGIMENT IDENTIFIED GROUPING. Company Letter D is superimposed over red felt circle, possibly noting 1st Army Corp. Overcoat is in nice used condition, minor resewing inside collar, minor moth damage scattered over coat. Largest is 1” x 2” moth damage on backside of coat. Coat retains all original buttons. Coat shows honest wear and sweat stains in collar. One indiscernible arsenal stamp in right sleeve. Lining is complete. A fine example of an actual used Civil War infantry coat. Forage cap shows light fading from blue to brown. Kepi retains good blue color where folded over and protected from sunlight. Mess gear includes tin plate, tin cup and patent spoon, knife, fork combination marked “ARMY KNIFE”. Also included in Corporal Scott’s trunk are cap tin, powder can, small cased telescope, whiskey flask with pewter top and his issued canteen with complete leather strap with cloth cover, a netted vest with porcelain button, camp hat and cigar holder.
