VERY RARE C.B. HOLDEN PERCUSSION TARGET RIFLE. Cal. 32. NSN. Very much resembles a Frank Wesson rifle with 27” slightly ovoid shaped oct bbl, globe front sight and 2-position, dainty ladder, rear sight. The bottom flat is much smaller than the other seven, built purposely to accommodate the ramrod. It has a unique integral sight base on the upper tang with a 2-3/8” blade with small aperture disk. It has about a 1/4″ counter bore at the muzzle. The receiver has a stepped side, almost identical to Frank Wesson with the hammer mounted directly to the right side of the frame and it has a shielded nipple. It has an iron serpentine trigger guard with finger rest and integral grip. The wood is nicely figured American walnut, uncheckered with round forearm that has a pewter nosecap. It has a straight grip stock with crescent buttplate with faceted tang. The top flat of the bbl in front of the receiver is marked “C.B. HOLDEN” and the bbl has two iron guides with its original iron ramrod. Accompanied by a copy of a brief biography of C.B. Holden. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Bbl retains 96-98% strong original blue with scattered spots of light surface rust. Receiver retains 40-50% original blue mostly in sheltered areas with the balance a dark patina. Trigger guard and buttplate are also dark patina. Wood is sound with light storage and handling marks with a couple of long scratches in the varnish on the buttstock. Mechanics are fine; the bore could not be checked. All in all a very rare rifle. 4-52803 JR638 (3,000-5,000)
