UNSIGNED (American, 19th/20th Century) THE BIG BLACK SCHOONER. Unframed, unsigned oil on canvas folk art portrait of a large black hulled four-mast tall ship. Each mast has a different flag including the American flag. The boat is seen at anchor and several people are aboard. A white skiff approaches the boat and a group of people are on a foreground dock. A low land mass is beyond with houses. The scene is similar to a view on the Kennebec River in Bath, Maine. SIZE: 24″ x 36″. CONDITION: Very dirty with discolored varnish, chipping to right side and right bottom, two small tears which are unrestored. A nice folk art ship portrait worth restoring and framing. 9-92252 (1,500-2,500)
