ALTERED MAYNARD PRIMED MUSKET. CAL: .69. 32-3/16” bbl. Maynard lock carries a standard 4-line Remington mark at the tail. Bbl is marked with small “V” and “P” marks about 2” in front of the breech. Breech is stamped “U.S.N.” over the pitting. Tang has been filed and re-dated 1856. Tang screw and bbl bands each carry on number 1 with a number on the rear band being over the number 24. There is a screw plug on top of the bbl.8” in front of the breech. The number 1 also appears on the triggerguard, buttplate and sideplate. There are numerous “inspector” marks on the left side of the wood including a small “USN”. NSN CONDITION: Metal is a gray patina with light to moderate pitting and signs of filing especially at the breech. Front sight bead and ramrod have been altered. Stock has been lightly sanded and refinished. Lock is good. Bore is poor. 4-44770 (200-400)
