ATTRIBUTED TO ROBERT SALMON (American, 1775-1858) “EAST BOSTON”. Outstanding unframed oil on canvas scene shows the harbor with sailboats on a calm reflective water. The foreground having a dock with figures next to a sailboat, large casts and two figures in a rowboat moored to piling. Across the water are several schooners and multi-storied buildings and church. All under a cloud and blue sky. Titled bottom right “East Boston”. NOTE: We are told that at one time this painting was initialed “R S” but has lost the initials during its restoration life. SIZE: 16″ x 20″. PROVENANCE: Marine Arts Gallery, Salem, Massachusetts. CONDITION: Relined with restoration and inpainting. Very good. 9-93047 (6,000-8,000)
