WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 45-75. SN 42992. Full-stock carbine with 22” rnd bbl, square base front sight and short “1876” marked carbine ladder rear sight. It has British proofs on the bbl and receiver and a stud and ring on the left side of the receiver. It has nicely figured American walnut wood with straight stock and carbine buttplate. The forearm has one band secured with a spring keeper and an iron nose cap. The left side of the buttstock has the number “39X” stamped in about 1/4” letters. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this carbine as having been received in the warehouse January 14, 1885 as a rifle with oct bbl in caliber 40-60, was changed to carbine on June 5, 1885 and shipped December 15, 1885 to work order #3115. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbl retains 93-95% strong original blue with fine surface spotting. Receiver retains 65-70% strong original blue with the balance flaked to a light patina. Loading gate retains virtually all of its original niter blue. Lever and hammer retain most of their original dark case colors, as does the buttplate. Wood is sound and retains most of its original factory varnish with a rubbed spot on the buttstock and a couple of dings on the forearm. Mechanics are crisp with brilliant shiny bore. 4-52544 JR288 (6,000-10,000)
