MERWIN & BRAY (PLANT) FRONT LOADING REVOLVER. Cal 30 cup fire. SN 4615. Small brass frame revolver with 3-1/2” ribbed oct bbl, marked on the top “Merwin & Bray Fire Arms Co. N.Y.”. It has unfluted cylinder with patent dates and the usual ejector on the right side, with 2-pc rosewood grips. It has what appears to be a spurious presentation on the backstrap “WASH BONNER SANSABA TEXAS”. The engraving is either of recent application or possibly applied late in the period of use as some of the lettering passes through some light dents, scratches, and marks on the backstrap. Accompanied by a period dark brown leather flap holster. CONDITION: As noted. Bbl retains 10-15% thin original blue. No finish remains on the cylinder, it being a medium brown patina. Frame retains about 20% oxidized silver plating in the very sheltered areas. Grips are sound with traces of original finish. Strong dark bore. Holster is worn with a repaired belt loop, is missing closure strap. 4-50719 JR288 (300-500)
