INDIAN TACK DECORATED THIRD MODEL BROWN BESS FLINTLOCK MUSKET. NSN. 70 Cal. 39-1/4” rnd bbl. Marked “TOWER” with a slight arc vertically at the rear of the lockplate and crowns over “broad arrow” and “GR” in front of the hammer. There are military proof marks at the left rear on the bbl and on the bbl tang. There are 11 large brass tacks in the wood around the buttplate with visible holes for many more. There are also square nail shanks at various places on the stock. The ramrod is missing. The bbl tang stands completely above the stock at its tail. This late Tower musket shows Indian usage, possibly Canadian. CONDITION: Smooth gray patina with even light pitting. Stock has been heavily cleaned and most metal stands proud of the wood. Ramrod channel between the triggerguard and tailpipe has worn through. There is a crack at the front of the lockplate and some dry rot at the toe of the stock. Sling swivels are missing.
