SCARCE NORTHWEST MOUNTED POLICE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 45-75. SN 45348. Full stock carbine with 22” rnd bbl, square base front sight that has been covered with solder and a musket style rear sight. The receiver has a stud and ring in the left side and it is fitted with uncheckered shell grain American walnut wood that has “N.W.M.P.” in an arc near the right heel of the butt and the number “APP15” stamped below the lower tang. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this carbine as having been shipped April 18, 1885 “with 299 other Model 1876’s, order Number 20202, to the Northwest Mounted Police”. CONDITION: Very good to fine. Metal retains mostly an even dark brown patina with some very fine surface rust on the bbl and traces of original blue on the receiver. Wood is sound, missing a chip by the top tang and shows evidence of having been cleaned a long time ago. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore with scattered very fine pitting. 4-52545 JR290 (4,000-7,000)
