ARTHUR GIBBES BURTON (American, 1883-1969) “AUGUST NIGHT”. Outstanding oil on canvas nighttime scene shows an early Colonial three-story home with connected barns and carriage house. A picket fence and dirt road are seen in front with large trees. The appearance of light from a full moon which is not part of the canvas. Colors in blue and green hues. Signed lower right. Housed in its original carved wood gilt period frame. Back of stretcher has an original penned label indicating title, size, price, artist and Newfane, VT. SIZE: 32” x 30”.
