RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 1876 DELUXE LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 50 Express (50-95). SN 29756. Rare special order deluxe rifle with 26” oct to rnd bbl, button magazine, ivory bead front sight, short semi-buckhorn rear sight with checkered edges and a Lyman tang sight. It has checkered highly figured, about 4X, American walnut wood with fleur-de-lis black insert pistol grip stock and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter and yellow sheet identifying this rifle and indicating shipment on November 8, 1882, returned and repaired May 7, 1907. CONDITION: Good to very good. Bbl retains 25-30% blue in sheltered areas with the balance a mottled silver/brown patina. Receiver retains traces of original case colors in the very sheltered areas with the sideplates mostly silvered case colors and the receiver mottled silver/gray patina. Wood is sound, showing moderate to heavy wear with numerous small nicks and scratches and retains about 85% original piano varnish finish. Buttplate is moderate to heavily pitted. Dust cover retains about 75% plum blue patina and occasionally will not open with the bolt; otherwise mechanics are fine with a bright shiny bore having some scattered orange peel pitting. 4-52542 JR287 (10,000-20,000)
