EXTREMELY RARE AMES MODEL 1842 REVENUE SERVICE PISTOL. NSN. Cal. 54. 6” rnd bbl. Marked “N.P. AMES / SPRINGFIELD / MASS” on the lockplate below the hammer and “U. S. R / 1843” vertically at the rear of the lockplate. “U. S. R.” indicates the U.S. Revenue Cutter Service, which was the predecessor of the Coast Guard. The bbl is marked “1843 / JCB / P”. It is smooth bore. There are two cartouches on the left flat of the stock, but neither is readable. CONDITION: About 50% orig brown on bbl with some touch-up at the muzzle. Lockplate and hammer are lightly pitted. Stock has been cracked and repaired on the grip with a new crack beneath the rear of the lockplate. Stock has been lightly sanded and refinished.
