PLANTERS PEANUTS PORCELAIN SIGN. A rare sign from Planter’s Peanuts with their monacled Mr. Peanut logo used as an advertising panel in a “Highway Lighthouse”. These lighthouses were found along roadways in the 1920s and 30s to alert motorists of roadway hazards that lay ahead. Constructed with a large blinking light atop a tall rectangular base, they proved too tempting a canvas for advertising companies to pass up. While the lighthouses have all long ago disappeared, here’s an opportunity to own a truly rare relic of a bygone automotive era that’s also an extremely rare Planters Peanut sign. The Highway Lighthouse Company who produced these signs had offices located in New York and Pittsburgh in the mid-1930s. SIZE: 27-1/2″ w x 60-1/4″ h. CONDITION: Fair to good. Scratches, scrapes and porcelain chips. The top has some corrosion and loss of metal. 1-8226 (20,000-25,000)
