RARE REVOLUTIONARY WAR SIGNED FLINTLOCK MUSKET WITH NEW HAMPSHIRE MARKINGS. NSN. Cal. 82. 41-5/8” rnd bbl. Marked “IS / 1776” (possibly by Joseph Stevens who worked froom 1774-1782) at the tail of the lock and “N HAMPSHIRE” on top of bbl. There are 2 or more letters following this. “S.R” is fairly clear, but no others can be read. There are no other proof marks. The trigger guard, which appears to be of the Brown Bess style, lost the rear tang before it was installed on this stock. The raised counterplate appears to be of the same style and period, as do the front and single remaining ramrod pipes. There is no tailpipe. Flash hole has been bushed. Lockplate was not removed due to the fragility of the screws, but frizzen spring and screw are replacements, and internal parts are not guaranteed. Ramrod is a replacement. CONDITION: Very heavy pitting on bbl. Light pitting and fresh rust on lockplate and parts. Dark patina on the brass. Rear sling swivel is missing and does not appear to be a hole for one for the front one on the stock. Stock has numerous dents and scratches and has been refinished.
