MAURITZ FREDERIK DE HAAS (American, 1832-1895) “ROUGH WATERS”. Oil on canvas scene shows a small two-mast fishing boat with people aboard in choppy sea with multiple sails on the horizon. Light blue patches can be seen through gray and white clouds. Signed lower right “MFH De Haas 76”. Housed in a fine deep gesso decorated gilt replacement frame. There are two labels affixed to back, one from the Maxwell Galleries, San Francisco, the other from Godwin Gallery, Pepperell, Mass. SIZE: 7-1/4” x 14-1/4”. CONDITION: Relined, minor inpainting.
