WINCHESTER 1ST MODEL 1873 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 19463. Standard grade rifle with 24-1/4” rnd bbl, full magazine, blue blade Rocky Mountain front sight with platinum line and carbine ladder rear sight. It has the first style receiver with impressed thumb print mortised dust cover. It has factory sling swivels and the wood is uncheckered straight grain American walnut with straight stock and crescent buttplate with trap. It appears that this rifle was returned to Winchester and a later production bbl was installed and now bears the “WP” proof on bbl and receiver. It also appears that it was refinished at the time. The magazine cap is from a button magazine. Accompanied by a copy of the Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as being shipped on August 19, 1876. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbl and magazine tube retain 95-97% strong bright factory blue. Receiver retains 85-90% thin factory refinished blue. Wood is sound with numerous small nicks, scratches and dings and a few small gouges on the stock and retains most of its old refinish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. Would make an outstanding cowboy action shooter. 4-52873 JR375 (6,000-10,000)
