RARE REMINGTON WHITMORE DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 2753. Rare early Remington with 30″ Damascus bbls choked MOD/MOD with smooth tapered rib, sgl bead & extractors. It has lightly engraved receiver & lockplates with zigzag borders & modest flourishes of arabesque patterns. Fences have deep shields along the back edges & the action is the rare lifter locking system that when the lever at the top of the wrist is raised, pulls the locking pin to the rear and also brings the hammers back into the safety notch. Wood is nicely figured French walnut with black insert, semi-schnable tipped splinter forearm with wedge and checkered straight stock, 13-3/4″ over a smooth steel buttplate. CONDITION: Fine. Bbls retain 60-70% silvery Damascus pattern with some light surface discoloration, probably cleaned a long time ago. Receiver & lockplates retain traces of orig case colors with the balance turned silver. Wood is sound with the forearm showing heavy wear & retaining a fine patina. Buttstock has usual light handling & use marks with a fine smooth patina. Mechanics are fine, bores have some shine with moderate to heavy pitting. 5-60469 JR143 (800-1,500)
