SCARCE REMINGTON MODEL 1894 DEO GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 100989. Beautiful Remington dbl with 30″ ordnance steel bbls choked FULL/FULL with flat, matted, and tapered rib with sgl bead, third bite rib extensions, ejectors & dbl triggers. Bbls are marked with the maker’s name & address & has “ORDNANCE” on each one. Receiver is beautifully engraved with vignettes of two bird dogs on the left side & a flying mallard on the right side, surrounded by about 50% coverage, very fine foliate arabesque patterns. Maker’s name is on each side. Opening lever, trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match. Wood is highly figured American walnut with 80% coverage checkered splinter forearm & rare rnd knob semi-pistol grip stock with raised checkered spear point side panels & extensively checkered wrist, 14″ over a Remington logo hard rubber buttplate. This rnd knob stock is discussed on page 167 in Remington Dbl Shotguns, Semmer, wherein he states that SN 115402 is the only known D grade without a capped pistol grip. Now there are two known. Drop at the heel 3″, drop at the comb 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 7.1 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain most of a professionally restored rust blue finish with a minor tiny nick or two. Receiver & floorplate retain 30-40% faded case colors, stronger & heavier on the floorplate with the balance turned silver. Forearm has a bite & a couple of small chips missing from the edge of the bbl channel & a repair at the rear end, otherwise the wood is sound & retains most of a fine professionally restored finish. Checkering on the stock & the heavier checkering on the forearm are refreshed, while the fine, checkered panels on the forearm have not been touched.
