*EXTREMELY RARE MODEL 1894 REMINGTON EE GRADE DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 109680. Fantastic high grade Remington, one of only a handful known. This beautiful gun has 30″ “Etoile” Damascus pattern bbls with flat, matted rib, sgl bead, and rib extension third fastener, ejectors & dbl triggers. Maker’s name & address are on the bbls, and the name “Remington” is contained within the Damascus design. These are Leige bbls and the only Remington known to exist. Belgian makers were the only ones known to weave names into the Damascus (not acid worked). It is not even known today how they did this. Boxlock receiver is stamped with an “E” on the left side of the water table and a tiny “F” on the right side of the water table & is spectacularly engraved with 100% coverage game scene & very fine intertwined foliate arabesque patterns. Left side vignettes are of two bobwhite quail & a ruffed grouse. Right side vignettes are of two ruffed grouse & the floorplate has a large vignette of a bugling bull elk & two cow elk in a mountain meadow scene. Fences are engraved with stylized fleur-de-lis. Top tang, opening lever, trigger guard & forend iron are engraved to match. Lower tang of the trigger guard is also engraved with the maker’s name & the serial number. Wood is very highly figured French walnut with full coverage ribbon checkered splinter forearm & semi-pistol grip stock with checkered, raised, fleur-de-lis, side panels with ribbon checkering extensively over the wrist in two different patterns & measures 14-1/2″ over a leather covered pad. Drop at the heel 2-3/8″, drop at the comb 1-3/4″. Weight: 7 lbs. 5.6 oz. It is believed that this was originally made as a presentation gun. It is a truly special Remington and the most exceptional Model 1894 you will ever see. There are 4 “Specials” known, but this is the only “one of a kind” existing. CONDITION: Very fine plus. Bbls retain 96-98% strong orig dark blue/gray Damascus patterns (possibly an old restored finish) with slight muzzle edge wear & light wear at the chamber end. Receiver & floorplate retain most of their casehardened finish turned silver with colors in the very sheltered areas. Trigger guard is mostly a gray metal color. Wood is sound with light handling & use marks with the forearm very dark & oil stained, retaining a dark patina & shows moderate wear. Buttstock shows light wear & retains most of its orig strong varnish. Crisp mechanics, bright shiny bores with some minor scuffing. 5-60446 JR175 (20,000-30,000)
