*VERY RARE REMINGTON SPECIAL GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN.

*VERY RARE REMINGTON SPECIAL GRADE DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 400003. One of only twelve shotguns of this model ever produced. It is fitted with 30″ “Nickel Steel” bbls choked FULL/FULL with concave, matted, tapered rib with sgl bead & Greener cross bolt rib extension referred to as the “treble wedge”. It has ejectors & gold-plated dbl triggers. Receiver has dbl scalloped rear edges & has full coverage, exquisite engraving consisting of a pack of three hounds attacking two wolves on the left side, three hounds attacking two deer on the right side & a flock of five mallards on the floorplate, all surrounded by superb, quality foliate, arabesque patterns. Side edges of the floorplate are engraved with leaf & vine patterns. Fences are beautifully engraved with oak leaf patterns. Trigger bow has a pointer on point in a woodland scene. Engraving extends about 1-1/8″ up over the bbls and 1-3/4″ down the rib with a flying pigeon on the rib. Forend iron & the rare heel & toe plates have matching pattern engraving with a small rnd medallion on the forearm engraved with a spaniel holding a woodcock. Receiver engraving is so spectacular in that the animals merge & mesh with the arabesque patterns in a manner that only the most skilled master engraver could accomplish. Stock is a replacement made from very highly figured honey & chocolate, marble cake French walnut & has raised, checkered, spear point side panels & elaborately checkered rnd knob grip with ribbon & spear point patterns. It is 14-3/4″ over heel & toe plates with a very fine-checkered center & has a large oval initial plate on the bottom. The orig forearm is wonderfully figured dark walnut with elaborate ribbon & spear point checkering patterns. This exact shotgun is pictured on pp. 238-243 of Remington Dbl Shotguns, Semmer. Drop at the heel 2″, drop at the comb 1-1/2″. Weight: 7 lbs. 7.9 oz. CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain most of a fine professionally restored finish. Receiver & floorplate are silvered casehardening with traces of case colors in the very sheltered areas. Custom buttstock retains virtually all of its fine custom finish with a minor scratch or two.
