ENGRAVED WINCHESTER MODEL 1873 SADDLE RING CARBINE. Cal. 44 WCF (44-40). SN 62000. 2nd model carbine with full nickel plating and $2.50 engraving. It has 20” bbl, full magazine, Baker square base front sight and 2-position flip rear sight. It has about 2X fancy wood with straight stock and carbine buttplate with trap. The left side of the receiver has a staple and ring. The engraving is in Ulrich style 10, consistent of a small vignette of a deer on the left side plate surrounded by foliate arabesque patterns with Ulrich’s trademark flower blossom in the center. The right side is simply foliate arabesque patterns. The receiver, dust cover and buttplate tang have light flourishes of arabesque patterns. Accompanied by a Cody Firearms Museum letter identifying this carbine with “fancy stock, full nickel” and “$2.50 engraving” and indicating shipment November 29, 1880. CONDITION: Fair. Overall retains 60-70% old re-nickel finish with some fine pitting on the bbl and magazine tube, heavier on the left side of the receiver with deep pitting on the right side. Magazine cap screw and bbl band screw are missing. Dust cover screw and tang screws are changed. Mechanics are a little loose but functional, strong dark bore. 4-52875 JR385 (5,000-10,000)
