CAST IRON MECHANICAL TAMMANY BANK. Late 19th Century. When this bank was created, it was to represent Boss Tweed; a corrupt politician in New York in the 1880s. It depicts a figure sitting on a chair and when a coin is put in his hand, the boss slides money effortlessly into his pocket. Painted with brown suit and yellow vest. “Tammany Bank” is cast on both left and right side of chair as well as impressed on the back of chair “Pat’d Dec 23, 1873”. SIZE: 5-3/4″ h. CONDITION: Retains original painted surfaces with wear and chips throughout. Bank is functional. 9-22506 (250-300)
