CAST IRON “JOLLY NIGGER” MECHANICAL BANK. Late 19th/Early 20th Century. As coin is placed in hand and lever is pushed, hand raises to deposit money in mouth as his eyes roll and tongue moves. Reverse of bank is cast with “Jolly Nigger Bank”. SIZE: SIZE: 6-1/4″ h x 5-1/4″ w x 5-1/4″ d. CONDITION: Bank retains original painted surfaces with undisturbed patina. Paint losses to lips and areas on jacket. One screw fastening proper right ear appears to be a later replacement. Bank in functioning order. 9-22505 (300-500)
