RARE QUALITY 5 LIFTER HAMMER DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 3929. Built on a medium frame with 32″ Damascus steel bbls with smooth rib, sgl bead & early rnd extractor. Receiver has deep relief scallops on the sides of the fences and deep scalloped recesses around the firing pins. Lockplates & receiver are delicately engraved with elliptical shaped vignettes of a duck hunting scene on the left lockplate, a field bird hunting scene on the right lockplate & two bird dogs on point with a rail fence in a field scene on the bottom. Trigger bow is very nicely engraved with a spaniel retrieving a duck in a marsh scene. It is all surrounded by beautiful chain border patterns with some scattered light arabesque patterns. Hammers & top tang are engraved to match. Wood is very nicely figured streaky French walnut with checkered splinter forearm with wedge & rnd knob semi-pistol grip buttstock with teardrop side panels, 14-1/8″ over a checkered hard rubber buttplate. Drop at the heel 2-3/4″, drop at the comb 2″. Weight: 8 lbs. 13.1 oz. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 96-98% strong beautiful restored Damascus pattern with some scrapes & a dent at the muzzle edge of the right bbl. Receiver & lockplates are a medium gray patina with one spot of discoloration on the right lockplate & light spotting on the bottom of the receiver. Trigger guard retains most of an old refinish. Stock has a hairline with some light fill back of the top tang, otherwise the wood is sound and retains most of a professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, strong bright bores with fine pitting. 5-60428 JR137 (2,500-4,500)
