RARE PARKER GRADE 5 LIFTER HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 22026. Rare high-grade lifter with 32″ fine pattern Damascus bbls, smooth tapered concave rib with sgl bead & the maker’s name & address. Receiver has scalloped fences & full coverage, very fine engraving with the lockplates having two bird dogs & two birds on each side, a retrieving setter on the bottom, a setter on the trigger bow and a quail on the top, all surrounded with very fine foliate arabesque patterns. Bottom of the fences have dbl-scalloped reinforcements & the hammers are engraved to match. Wood is very nicely grained American walnut with checkered splinter forearm & rnd knob semi-pistol grip stock with teardrop side panels, 14-1/4″ over an engraved skeleton buttplate. Top of the wrist has a gold initial shield. Accompanied by a Parker letter identifying this shotgun as having been shipped October 14, 1881 to Wm. M. Tuell of Terre Haute, IN at a cost of $225.00 CONDITION: Fine to very fine. Bbls retain most of their orig brown Damascus pattern with some light wear about mid-point. Receiver & lockplates retain traces of case colors in the very sheltered areas, being mostly a silver metal color. Stock has a hairline back of each lockplate, otherwise wood is sound & retains most of an old refinish. Mechanics are fine, pitted bores. 5-60335 JR59 (2,500-5,000)
