RARE PARKER HAMMER LIFTER DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 20 ga. SN 10165. Rare lifter in small bore with 25-3/4″ stub twist bbls choked CYL/CYL with smooth rib, sgl bead & extractors. Rib is engraved with the maker’s name & address and the receiver, with lightning cuts in the water table, has nicely scalloped fences & the maker’s name on each lockplate. Wood is uncheckered nicely figured American walnut with splinter forearm with wedge & semi-pistol grip stock, 14-5/8″ over a skeleton butt with smooth center. Accompanied by a Parker letter indicating shipment on Oct. 6, 1877 to J.J. Palmer of Belle Fontaine, OH. It is identified as an “O” quality shotgun & weighed 5 lbs. 9 oz. at a cost of $50.00 for the gun, $20.00 for extra hand work and $0.65 for expenses on bbls. Also accompanying is a hand written note, apparently from Ron Kirby, wherein he speculates that this is the first 20 ga. lifter for which Mr. Palmer apparently supplied the bbls that took the extra fitting time as mentioned in the factory records. Drop at the heel 3-3/4″, drop at the comb 2-3/8″. Weight: 5 lbs. 5.3 oz. CONDITION: About good. Bbls are a mottled silver & brown patina with Damascus pattern on the bottom rib. Receiver & lockplates are a dark mottled patina. Stock has a crack below each lockplate and hairlines back of each lockplate with no vestiges of checkering, either on the forearm or wrist, and there may never have been any. There is a sliver missing by the lower tang & from the left side of the bbl channel in the forearm and overall the wood retains a smooth dark patina with light to moderate handling & use marks. Mechanics are tight, moderately pitted bores with some shine. 5-60416 JR126 (3,000-6,000)
