CASED GRADE 2 PARKER HAMMER LIFTER DAMASCUS DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 10 ga. SN 9243. Built on a #2 frame with 28″ Damascus steel bbls. Receiver & lockplates have typical grade 2 engraving with light border patterns & a couple of small flourishes of arabesque patterns. Fences have a sgl deep scallop with an engraved sunburst over the top. Wood is nicely figured American walnut with checkered splinter forearm secured with a sgl wedge and pistol grip stock with raised side panels, 14-1/8″ over a smooth steel buttplate. This shotgun will letter as it is. Accompanied by an orig Parker walnut casing 31-3/4″ long x 8-3/4″ wide x 3-3/4″ high. It is lined with green felt & has compartments for the shotgun, a wad cutter, tamping tool, oil bottle, tin of Parker Berdan primers and 50 mixed brass & nickel-plated Parker shot shells. Also accompanied by a letter from Lee Ingalls dated 2-25-96 apparently selling this shotgun to Charles Herzog and conveying a scrap of paper on which states that this shotgun was purchased in 1872 by J.L. Ryno who reportedly was the last surviving Civil War veteran in Interlaken, NY. A preliminary Internet search disclosed that Mr. Ryno, as of 1902, was a veteran of the 126th Regiment in Farmer, NY. CONDITION: Bbls retain 75-80% gray Damascus pattern, thin over the forearm area. Lockplates retain 75-80% orig case colors, strong in the sheltered areas and on the hammers. Receiver retains 30-40% faded case colors with the balance turned to silver. Trigger guard & buttplate retain about 60-70% strong orig blue. Wood is sound with minor nicks & scratches and retains most of its orig varnish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores with some minor orange peel effect. Case is fine, sound, and retains most of an old restored finish on the outside. Inside appears orig, slightly faded & lightly soiled. Parker primer tin has a couple of chips in the label with some water staining, otherwise is fine. Cartridge cases are fine. 5-60366 JR471 (3,000-5,000)
