RARE 1 OF 26 CENTENNIAL PARKER GRADE 3 DAMASCUS LIFTER HAMMER DBL BBL SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 6865. Built on a #2 frame with 30″ Damascus steel bbls choked IMP-CYL/CYL with smooth rib & sgl bead. Receiver has sgl scalloped fences with deep recessed scallops over the firing pins. Receiver & lockplates are modestly engraved with a pointer on the left side, a setter on the right side & a partridge on the bottom, surrounded with a fine zig-zag & chain border with light flourishes of arabesque patterns. Trigger bow is engraved with a pointer. Wood is very highly figured center crotch cut American walnut with checkered splinter forearm with wedge & straight stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-3/16″ over a skeleton buttplate with checkered center. Accompanied by a Parker letter indicating that this shotgun was begun in Jan. 1876 & completed in April. Letter fully identifies this shotgun & states it was ordered with a 14-1/4″ LOP. A notation in the ledger states “CENTENNIAL”. Letter further states that there are only 26 guns with “CENTENNIAL” notation, although Parker displayed numerous guns at the Philadelphia Exhibition in 1876 for which they won the Grand Medal & Diploma. Drop at the heel 2-3/4″, drop at the comb 2-1/8″. Weight: 8 lbs. 4.9 oz. CONDITION: Extremely fine plus. Bbls retain 97-98% beautiful light brown Damascus pattern with minor muzzle edge wear. Receiver & lockplates retain most of their strong orig factory case colors, slightly faded. Trigger guard & lower tang retain about 90% orig bright blue & the buttplate 15-20% orig bright blue. Wood is sound with minor handling & storage marks with three or four small grain checks on the right side of the butt and retains most of its orig dark hand rubbed oil finish. Crisp mechanics, bright shiny bores with some slight orange peel effect. 5-60491 JR158 (5,000-10,000)
