PAIR OF CRATED PAPIER MACHE ADVERTISING TIGERS. Fabulous pair of life-like full bodied tigers used either as store displays or parade figures. Circa turn of the century. Depicting crouching tigers with mouths in a snarl on a molded naturalistic base marked “Learbury Tiger”, presumably for Learbury Clothiers makers of fine men’s suits in Syracuse, NY and have been attributed to Old King Cole. Current consignors were told by original owners (who obtained them in the 1920s) that they were made shortly after the turn of the century when Learbury’s was founded. Encased within original packing crate cages marked “Handle With Care This Box Contains Learbury Fashion Display”. SIZE: 76″ l x 30″ h x 29″ d. CONDITION: Very good to near excellent all-original condition having been stored in their crates for so many years. 1-8189 APT (4,000-6,000)
