*PARKER BH GRADE DBL BBL HAMMER SHOTGUN. Cal. 12 ga. SN 91632. Built on a #2 frame with 30″ Titanic steel bbls choked FULL/MOD with matted rib, sgl bead, doll’s head extension & extractor. Receiver is very beautifully engraved with vignettes of two pointers & two partridge on the left lockplate, two setters & two partridge on the right lockplate & a running bull elk on the bottom front of the receiver with two partridge on the trigger plate, all surrounded by about 75% coverage very fine foliate arabesque patterns with a chain border. Flats of the hammer have full coverage matching engraving. Trigger bow has the vignette of a setter & flushing pheasant. Fences have deep relief dbl scallops on the sides & a deep relief scallop over the firing pins with one large & one small raised rib below the fences. Lever is serpentine style with a cut out for the right hammer. A matching border pattern is at the breech end of the bbls. Wood is very nicely figured American walnut with checkered splinter forearm & extensively checkered straight stock with raised teardrop side panels, 14-1/8″ over a checkered butt (probably reduced to this length & the skeleton butt not refitted). There is a gold initial plate on the bottom inscribed “M”. Accompanied by a Parker letter identifying this shotgun with a 14-1/2″ LOP & indicating shipment July 17, 1899 to J.R. Hegeman of New York City. Price was $200.00. CONDITION: Very fine. Bbls retain 96-97% strong professionally restored blue with a couple of small dings & two or three small chemical spots near the muzzle. Receiver & lockplates have been cleaned to bright. Stock has a replaced teardrop on the left side, otherwise the wood is sound & retains virtually all of a fine professionally restored finish. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bores with a few scattered light spots. 5-60492 JR159 (3,000-5,000)
